Thames Valley Police look back on a week at Royal Ascot

Thames Valley Police are  proud to have supported Royal Ascot 2024 last week, as more than 250,000 racegoers attended the iconic sporting event alongside members of the Royal Family and notable guests.

The successful policing and security operation was delivered in partnership with agencies including Ascot Racecourse Limited, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and colleagues from the Military Police.

Superintendent Andrew Cranidge, Tactical Commander for the policing operation, said: “Policing Royal Ascot is an honour for the force and this year has been no different. My teams have commented on what a privilege it has been from escorting members of the Royal Family to engaging with racegoers and local businesses.

“Each officer, whether in highly visible roles, or those working behind the scenes, have played their own part in this operation and ensured the safety of those who have visited Royal Ascot during the week.

“It has been a pleasure to once again work with Ascot Racecourse Limited and our other partner agencies and police forces to ensure this event has been safe and enjoyable for everyone who attended.

“Over course of the event, 36 arrests were made for offences including assault, drink driving and possession of class A drugs. These arrests represent an incredibly small minority of all those who attended Royal Ascot.

“Thank you to everyone who has made it an enjoyable week for us.”
