Urgent action on road safety improvements at Wellington Gate

Earlier this week I hosted a meeting between Thames Valley Police, Oxfordshire County Council, Persimmon Homes and St John's CE Academy to discuss the road safety concerns at Wellington Gate.

With the secondary school due to open in just a couple of weeks there is a need for urgent action both on the junction at Liberator Way, but also the need for a safe school crossing.

Sadly ,much of the work previously agreed will take some time to deliver. After yesterday's meeting the developers have committed to trying to implement a plan for a temporary crossing before the start of term, as well as work between the council and developers to get the junction properly marked and speed limits properly implemented.

There is a lot still to do and no everything will be completed before the start of term, but some changes can be put in place.

I've asked for an update before the end of this week and we have agreed another meeting before the half term break to consider some of the longer term issues including a permanent crossing and adoption of the roads by the county council.

My note on actions from the meeting can be found at matthewbarber.co.uk/wellingtongate.
