Thames Valley Police Launch Safer Langley To Tackle Organised Crime and Build A Safer Community
Thames Valley Police (TVP) and partner agencies have launched Safer Langley, a collaborative initiative aimed at creating a safer, more resilient Langley by removing the harmful influence of organised crime.
Through this Home Office-supported framework, TVP’s first Clear, Hold, Build (CHB) project, Safer Langley will target organised crime groups (OCGs), reclaim spaces for the community, and work with residents to build lasting protection against criminal influence.
Our approach consists of three phases:
Targeted Disruption: Coordinated action to dismantle OCGs, arrest offenders, and eliminate criminal networks, business interests and influence in the community.
Securing the Community: Protecting reclaimed areas from further OCG activity to ensure they remain safe.
Building Resilience: Collaborating with residents and partners to tackle vulnerabilities, reduce hotspots of harm and address the root causes of crime, making Langley more resistant to future threats.
Working alongside local partners, this initiative will focus on the issues that matter most to the Langley community, including crime, anti-social behaviour, health, youth opportunities, business development and employability. Over the coming months, residents can expect to see visible efforts in these areas, with opportunities for community involvement to make a real difference.
Chief Superintendent Steve Raffield said, “In recent years, Langley has experienced tragic incidents of violence, and no family should have to endure this. Safer Langley is a call to action for all of us to end the cycle of harm caused by organised crime.
“This initiative addresses issues that residents have raised with us – from anti-social behaviour and robbery to vehicle crime and serious violence. Working together with our partner agencies, community groups, and local residents, we’re in a stronger position to identify those causing harm and protect those at risk.”
“Safer Langley is a long-term commitment to positive change, but it requires everyone’s support to succeed. I encourage anyone interested to get involved – together, we can make Langley a safer, thriving place to live, work, and study.”
Councillor Ishrat Shah, lead member for equalities, public health and public protection at Slough Borough Council, said: "There has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes on this Safer Langley initiative. I hear from residents about concerns in the area and we have had some high profile incidents in the past. I hope by working together, as official bodies and with community input, we can really tackle some of the ongoing issues and make Langley a safer place for everyone. There is a real sense that working together closely can bring about lasting change."
This initiative is supported by various partner agencies, each playing a critical role in Safer Langley. For more information on their involvement and ways to participate, visit www.slough.gov.uk/saferlangley.
