Since it’s launch earlier this year Op Deter has seen Thames Valley Police taking a zero-tolerance approach to those who carry knives on our streets. Seeking out and charging those who carry weapons - before they go on to commit other offences. This preventative approach seeks to take dangerous people off the streets and help to challenge the culture of knife carrying amongst some young people, hoping to deter others from risking lives.

As part of an ongoing local crime survey, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley is asking residents to share views on where they would like the policing budget to be focused in 2023/24.

Thames Valley Police, Slough Borough Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Thames Valley are joining forces for a month of action to tackle violent crime in Slough.

The month of action against violence in December was marked with the arrival of the National Monument Against Violence and Aggression in Milton Keynes.

The risks to both women and girls in our communities can take many different forms, from domestic abuse to public place harassment, stalking to sexual violence.

Matthew Barber, Police and Crime Commissioner said “Part of my role is to ensure there is a clear focus on the priorities that matter most to the public. I want to gain a real understanding of how crime is affecting communities, whether it is direct experiences of crime or issues that may be causing you concern in your local area. I also want to hear your feedback, whether good or bad, on policing; what the police are doing well and areas you think could be improved.

“To help me build up a picture across the Thames Valley, the survey will be available on my website all year round. It will provide an ongoing mechanism for people to share their views and keep me informed. Whether or not you have directly experienced a crime, I would encourage you to use the survey to share your feedback and tell me what is important to you. Your views will help shape the future of policing in the Thames Valley.”

Results from the survey will be shared regularly on the PCC website, social media and other communication channels. 

Over one million pounds worth of machinery, tools and equipment have been recovered by the Thames Valley Police Rural Crime Taskforce since its launch earlier this year.
